The installation of sewer and water laterals requires the issuance of an excavation permit. Any excavation within the Town right-of-way requires the contractor to have a $5,000.00 street opening bond on file with the Town Clerk and the issuance of a street opening, sidewalk or curb alteration permit from the Highway Superintendent. A six (6) hour inspection notice is required to allow Engineering Staff time to schedule personnel to inspect the lateral prior to covering the installation. Specifications to meet Town construction standards are given to the applicant at the time of the issuance of the permit. If the excavation is on a State or County Highway, a permit from the appropriate agency is also required. The fee for an excavation permit is $25.00. Failure to obtain the permit prior to the commencement of work will result in the fee doubling.
New York State law requires proof of workers' compensation and disability benefits coverage for all contractors prior to the issuance of any permits. The submittal of an ACCORD form as proof is not acceptable.
