Refuse and recycling collection dates will be altered in weeks with major holidays.  Regular refuse and recycling pick-up is conducted Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  When a Town observed holiday falls on your collection day, your refuse and recycling will be collected on Wednesday of that week.  There will be no Wednesday yard waste collection that week. If your collection day is on the holiday date, then the collection day is Wednesdsay.

Recycling & Solid Waste Services

The Town of Union encourages backyard composting (the natural breakdown of organic matter such as leaves, grass, and vegetable scraps into a dark, rich soil material) and grasscycling (the process of recycling clippings by leaving them on the lawn after mowing). These activities significantly reduce the amount of waste that goes to the landfill, with the additional benefit of enriching soil and lawns. The Broome County Cornell Cooperative Extension provides free "how to" presentations for both composting and grasscycling.
